Perez-Carrillo Releases Small Batch Cigar
Posted: June 23, 2010
Ernesto Perez-Carrillo Jr., former owner of the iconic La Gloria Cubana cigar brand, recently released a follow-up to his new cigar brand. It's not his core line, as expected, but a small-batch production brand known as EP Carrillo Short Run.
The cigars are stronger and less expensive than the EP Carrillo Edición Inaugural 2009 Encore, which went on sale in December.
"We basically needed more time for the core line," said Ernesto Perez-Carrillo III, the son of cigarmaker Perez-Carrillo. "As we were working on the core, my dad came up with countless blends. He came up with the name Short Run. It has a lot more spice than the Inaugural."
This first incarnation of the EP Carrillo Short Run will have three sizes. The Populares, a robusto, will measure 4 7/8 inches long by 50 ring gauge, and have a suggested retail price of $6.25. Delirios will measure 5 7/8 by 52, and sell for $7.00. Those first two have shipped to cigar stores already. The third size, a fat cigar known as a Dominante, measuring 6 1/4 inches by 60 ring, will be on sale in July, and will retail for $8.50.
"We're very happy the way the whole thing turned out," said the elder Perez-Carrillo. "We're offering something different to the consumer. We're looking for different flavors, different complexities, we're looking for something that hits you and you say 'I've never tasted this before.'"
