Gurkha Buying Cojimar

Posted: June 8, 2010
In a blue blood meets working class deal, the owner of the boutique and very pricey Gurkha cigar brand is acquiring the inexpensive flavored cigar brand Cojimar.
The deal will bring together the owner of Gurkha, premium Honduran smokes that retail for an average of $12 to $15, with Cojimar, a flavored Dominican cigar brand that sells vanilla, rum and other flavored smokes for an average price of $3.95.
"We wanted to get into the class-C [convenience] stores market. We were never in that field," said Beach Cigar Group owner Kaizad Hansotia. "I thought it would be a good fit."
