First Look: Macanudo Maduro Vintage 1997
Posted: May 25, 2010
Cigar Aficionado has the exclusive first look at the Macanudo Maduro Vintage 1997, the first Macanudo Vintage made with a maduro wrapper. The cigar is made with 13-year-old Connecticut broadleaf tobacco, has a spicy blend of internal tobaccos, and one-of-a-kind metal bands for its initial release.
"It's the first-ever maduro under the Macanudo Vintage line," said Debo Mukherjee, vice president of marketing for General Cigar. "It really is a celebration of Macanudo, our flagship brand."
The cigar is the brainchild of Edmundo Garcia, tobacco operations manager for General Cigar Dominicana in Santiago, Dominican Republic. "We fermented, then sorted the tobacco, and selected the best," said Garcia, who has been with General since 1996, the year before the wrapper was harvested.
Mukherjee and Garcia came to the Cigar Aficionado offices recently to unveil the cigar, and to speak about the new smoke in this video.
The cigars will be previewed in August at the IPCPR trade show in New Orleans. For more details on the brand, see today's Cigar Insider.
