Dallas Committee Adds Fine to Smoking Ordinance Proposal

The Dallas City Council ad hoc committee charged with hashing out a new smoking ban proposal voted on Monday night to fine violators of the proposed ordinance a flat $200.

Mayor Tom Leppert formed the committee earlier in the month and asked that it develop a smoking ban ordinance to present to the full city council for a final vote on December 10.

The committee's plan includes language that would exempt tobacconists and cigar bars, however, the proposal would prohibit smoking in bars and pool halls and also within 15 feet of a public building entrance.
