Going Forward in the Face of a Ban
Posted: September 12, 2007
Although New Hampshire is instituting a comprehensive smoking ban next Monday that will prohibit smoking in restaurants and bars, a stalwart local tobacconist is going ahead with plans to open its third shop in the state.
Two Guys Smoke Shop, which has locations in Salem and in Seabrook, has purchased a property in Nashua, which is earmarked to open in February 2008.
"We've been waiting for the right location in Nashua for years now, and finally we found it," said David Garofalo, founder of Two Guys Smoke Shop. "[This] is possibly the best location in the state of New Hampshire and we bought it." It was formerly the site of a Hooters restaurant, according to a release from Two Guys.
The new Two Guys Smoke Shop will be set up like the other, cigar-only stores in the franchise. The Salem shop, for instance, which opened in 1995, occupies 8,500 square feet of smoke-friendly space and offers customers a lounge that houses couches, plasma-screen televisions and a pool table. The Nashua location will comprise 5,500 square feet and offer similar amenities. In the release, Two Guys said it has plans to branch out into other states in the future.
"This model has been working for us for 22 years now," said Garofalo, "and we're not going to fix what's not broken."
