Virginia Restaurants Keep Smoking

The Virginia General Assembly voted 59 to 40 Wednesday to continue to allow smokers to light up inside restaurants.
The Assembly rejected an addendum to the Virginia Indoor Clean Air Act proposed by Gov. Timothy M. Kaine that would have banned indoor smoking within all restaurants throughout the state. The original ban backed by House Majority Leader H. Morgan Griffith abandons the mandatory nonsmoking sections in restaurants to instead require only that signs be hung informing patrons that smoking is permitted on the premises.
The House law now goes back to Kaine, who is expected to veto it.
