Portrait of an OpusX
Posted: January 8, 2007
The paintings of cigars by Noah may have you wishing that your life imitated his art.
In striking detail and in a photo-realistic style, the Southern California artist, known simply as Noah, re-creates, among other things, the way a perfect Fuente Fuente OpusX looks when resting in a crystal ashtray with a pale smoke trail stemming from the foot. Not a bad moment to have frozen on your wall. Using a unique approach that combines airbrushing and drip painting techniques, Noah produces the intimate, almost sepia-toned images on canvas. The yellow and red of the OpusX band juxtaposes with the sumptuous brown of the wrapper, complemented by the shadowed amber hue of the background. Resist the urge to pull the frame off the wall and set it ablaze.
Noah, who became the official painter for Tabacalera A. Fuente y Cia in 2006, created this limited-edition line of cigar art the same year to contribute to the Cigar Family Charitable Foundation -- an organization established by a partnership between the Newman and Fuente families to benefit children in the Dominican Republic.
In addition to his work with cigar subjects, Noah has done commissioned work for Disney, Levi-Strauss and Lexus and murals for the royal family in Dubai. He has an extensive line of original subjects in his private collection, including wine art, and his work has been featured in the film 2 Fast 2 Furious and in the A&E television program "Inked."
The Fuente Fuente OpusX pieces come in sizes 24 by 36 inches and 18 by 24 inches. Unframed copies range from $525 to $1,800, and framed copies from $850 to $2,200. For more on the artist or to purchase one of his works, go to Fine Art by Noah at www.noahfineart.com.
