Alec Bradley is adding a new spin-off to its popular Black Market brand, but to find this one, you'll have to visit a retail member of the Tobacconists' Association of America.
The new Black Market Illicit is a 6 inch by 50 ring gauge toro, and it is the first TAA exclusive from Alec Bradley since the company released a Prensado Figurado back in 2013.
The new Illicit blend is a bit of a diversion from other Black Market cigars in that it has no Panama or Sumatra tobaccos in it. Instead, the Illicit sports a Nicaraguan wrapper, dual binders from Honduras and Nicaragua, and filler from Nicaragua. The company says the cigar is medium to full bodied and is stronger than other Black Market smokes.
"We like to describe this iteration of our number one-selling cigar as ‘Black Market on steroids,'" said owner Alan Rubin.
Illicit comes in 22-count boxes that resemble crates and are expected to retail for $8.75 per cigar. Whereas other Black Market cigars use a predominantly black design scheme, Illicit is dominated by red. It will begin shipping nationwide in July, and according to Jonathan Lipson, director of sales and marketing, the Illicit will be "an ongoing exclusive for TAA members."
The cigar recently debuted in Cabo San Lucas, Mexico, at the 49th annual meeting of the Tobacconists' Association of America, a retailer organization that represents American brick-and-mortar tobacconists.
