Room 101 Announces Daruma Gold

Posted: April 14, 2014
Room 101 is releasing its second line of the year, Daruma Gold, a follow-up to 2013's limited-production parejo line.
The previous Daruma, which had an Ecuadoran wrapper, received a wide range of scores in its vertical tasting, from 90 points down to 86. Daruma Gold sports the same binder and filler leaves as its predecessor, but the wrapper has been changed to a Mexican San Andrés leaf.
This is actually the second sequel in 2014 for Room 101. The company also released Master Collection Two, a follow-up to Master Collection, earlier this year.
Daruma Gold comes in what is now brand owner Matt Booth's standard sizes: a 4 inch by 42 ring gauge Papi Chulo, 4 by 48 Roxxo, 7 by 38 Mutante, 7 by 48 Sucio and a 5 by 60 Monstro. The prices are actually in line with the original Daruma release, ranging from $6.25 for the smallest size up to $10.25 for the thick Monstro.
Production is uneven across the line: 20,000 cigars of the Papi Chulo will be produced, but only 5,000 sticks of the Mutante. Roxxo and Sucio will see 25,000 and 15,000 respectively, and the thick Monstro will be produced at a whopping 35,000 sticks.
The company is shipping Daruma gold at the end of April.
