New Quesada Cigar Brand Commemorates 40 Years
Posted: March 10, 2014
Industry veteran Manuel "Manolo" Quesada has been producing cigars for 40 years. To commemorate this landmark achievement, his daughters Patricia and Raquel have blended the new Quesada 40th in their father's honor.
Made in the Dominican Republic at the Quesada Cigars factory, the Quesada 40th consists of Dominican and Nicaraguan tobacco within a dark, Mexican San Andrés wrapper.
"The 40th anniversary cigar is an opportunity for us to cherish my father's achievements, and at the same time look forward to adding more chapters to a story that began long ago," Patricia said in an official statement.
The Quesada 40th will be released in three core-line sizes: a 5 inch by 52 ring robusto ($8.95), a 6 by 54 Toro ($9.50) and 6 by 65 Toro Real ($9.95). Additionally, two limited-edition sizes will complement the core line. One is a box-pressed cigar, the Toro Press, measuring 6 by 49 ($10.95). The other is a unique, double-tapered figurado that is flatly pressed in the middle and bulbous on either end, creating a long valley in the middle of the cigar. Dubbed the Salomon Press ($12.95), it measures 6 3/4 by 50, and the unusual shape is meant to symbolize the geography of the Dominican Republic's Cibao valley. The flattened midrange of the cigar represents the valley while the two bulbs on each end stand for the Cordillera mountain ranges.
Cigars from the Quesada 40th line were previewed at the Quesada factory dinner during the ProCigar Festival on February 20. When asked about the unusual Salomon Press size during the event, Manuel Quesada responded: "If you would have shown this thing to me 30 years ago, I'd have fired you on the spot. But when I smoked it I would have been very impressed."
A special 6 1/2 by 46 Corona Clasica ($9.25) blended by Manolo Quesada himself will be available to select retailers in 50-count boxes.
