Avo Announces 88th Birthday Cigar

Posted: February 27, 2014

Musician and cigar icon Avo Uvezian is turning 88 this year, and Davidoff of Geneva is paying tribute with its 2014 Avo birthday cigar in March.

Dubbed the Avo 88, this belicoso-shaped cigar is particularly close to Avo’s heart because 88 also represents the number of keys on a piano—his instrument of choice.

As usual, the Davidoff team has carried the themes all the way through with this project: just 8,888 boxes will be released, 888 of them will be signed by Avo himself and each of the boxes will come in a glossy lacquered piano-finish. Additionally, the company is releasing 1,888 limited-edition ashtrays for the occasion, as well as 488 miniature grand pianos for retail display.

The company says it has been working on this project for several years. Using only Dominican tobacco, the 6 inch by 52 ring cigar features a wrapper from Yamasá, an olor binder and a filler blend of tobaccos that include piloto Cubano, San Vicente, olor and criollo.

Avo 88 will be a 6 inch belicoso measuring 52 ring gauge.

The cigars, which will retail $16 each or $256 per box of 16, are set to debut at Uvezian’s birthday dinner in New York City's Grand Havana Room on March 20. Unlike last year’s six-city tour, Uvezian’s only other appearance is scheduled for Orlando on March 22.
