A new Cuban Bolivar has come to market, but it’s only available at La Casa del Habano retail shops. With more than 140 locations worldwide, La Casa del Habano is an international franchise partially owned by Cuban cigar distributor Habanos S.A.
Each year, these official tobacconists receive special cigars, and the latest release is a Bolivar Libertadores. It measures 6 1/2 inches by 54 ring (the same size, or vitola, as the Cohiba Sublimes) and comes in boxes of 10. The Bolivar Libertadores was first introduced as a Regional Edition for France in 2006, but has been resurrected for this year’s Casa del Habano exclusive.
Each wooden, unvarnished semi boite nature box is furnished with hinges, a brooch clasp and a large, decorative side sticker of Simon Bolivar that wraps around the top and bottom of the box (called a papeleta in cigar-box parlance).
Like most cigars specifically aimed at Casas del Habano, the Libertadores are demarcated by secondary sienna-colored bands gilded with the Casa del Habano logo. According to global Cuban distributor Habanos S.A., the new Bolivar is recommended for smokers who are “seeking powerful flavors.”
The Bolivar Libertadores is the second Casa del Habano exclusive released this year. The H. Upmann Connossieur A, which was also billed by Habanos as a Casa special, shipped to the retail franchise shops in October.
Below is a chart that lists all of the official La Casa del Habano exclusive cigars that Habanos S.A. has manufactured, including their respective release year, dimensions and Cigar Aficionado rating.
