CAO Hits Cruising Speed with Flathead

Taking its inspiration from hot rods and pin-up girls, General Cigar Co. has released the CAO Flathead series, a line of seriously box-pressed cigars packaged in square boxes that resemble the engine blocks of America’s classic muscle cars.

“Rick Rodriguez and I were talking about the great people we’ve met at CAO events across the country and about the conversations we’ve had with them,” said CAO brand manager Ed McKenna. “It didn’t take is long to realize that the conversations were always about the same things: cigars, cars and girls.”

Like the name suggests, the squared off, box-pressed cigars are rolled with flat heads. They feature a dark Connecticut Broadleaf wrapper. A Connecticut Habano-seed binder holds together a Nicaraguan-heavy filler that contains some Dominican tobacco as well.

The brand comes in four sizes, each named after engine parts: V642 Piston, 6 1/2 inches by 42 ring; V554 Camshaft, 5 1/2 by 54; V660 Carb, 6 by 60; and a giant V770 Big Block, 7 by 70. They retail for $6.75 to $9.50 per cigar and each box comes with a collectible pin-up girl flysheet. They are on sale now.

Flathead is the third CAO release initiated by General Cigar since its parent company, Scandinavian Tobacco, acquired the brand. CAO Flatheads are made in Nicaragua at the Scandinavian Tobacco Estelí factory.
