Hammer + Sickle Goes Mild
Posted: August 28, 2013
Most people in the world of premium cigars are focusing their efforts on medium strength to powerful cigars. Eric Hanson, owner of the Hammer + Sickle brand, has gone mild with his newest creation.
Hammer + Sickle Icon Series is made for Hanson by Hendrik Kelner at his Tabacos Dominicanos factory in Dominican Republic. The new smokes are wrapped in Connecticut-shade leaf, and contain a mix of various Dominican filler and binder tobaccos.
Hanson describes the cigars as "pure, crisp and clean," made for the cigar aficionado "who understands the complexity of mild cigars, and can appreciate and enjoy the nuanced flavors of Connecticut-shade tobacco."

The cigars, on display at the summer trade show and in cigar stores now, come in three sizes: Robusto (5 inches by 50 ring gauge), Toro (6 by 50) and Churchill (7 by 48). They are adorned with a white cigar band bordered in silver bearing the familiar hammer and sickle image, and a slim, secondary band reading "Icon."
Hanson says early sales are very strong. "Mild truly moves," he said. "I am shocked."
The Hammer + Sickle brand was previously distributed by The Cigar Agency. Today Hanson is moving the brand on his own, via a company called Klin Tobacco LLC, based in North Chelmsford, Massachusetts.
