Alec Bradley Releases Video of Mundial’s Spacewalk

Alec Bradley Cigar Co. founder Alan Rubin made history last month by putting the first cigars into space, and the company has published a YouTube video that includes footage of the launch and the ascent itself.
On July 13, as the cigar industry was gathering in Las Vegas for the 81st annual International Premium Cigar & Pipe Retailers Association trade show, Rubin—who won the title of Cigar of the Year in 2011 for his Alec Bradley Prensado Churchill—and the team from Alec Bradley gathered on the 59th floor of the Palms Place Casino to launch an airtight package containing all five sizes of their soon-to-be released Mundial line.
Alec Bradley has released footage of the historic launch, which put the cigars more than 18 miles up into the air—an ascension that took more than an hour-and-a-half. That actually puts these five smokes in the stratosphere, the atmospheric layer that includes the ozone layer (the International Space Station, for comparison, orbits around 200 miles up).
Mundial is set to ship towards the end of September. The new line, which Rubin said has been in the making for nearly five years, is comprised of a blend that uses wrapper grown in the Trojes region of Honduras (which Alec Bradley also uses on Prensado); two binder leaves, one from Honduras, another from Nicaragua; and a mix of four filler tobaccos from Nicaragua and Honduras, with a very heavy component of Estelí ligero.
