Made For You, April 2013

CA Editors
From the Print Edition:
Jeremy Irons, March/April 2013

In a world of fast food and one-size-fits-all sensibilities, how often does something feel made especially for you? The “Made for You” section celebrates those items that are created with such high quality of hand workmanship and degree of customization that they become individual to you.

In each issue, our editors will endeavor to bring you special things from anywhere on the globe, choosing them solely on the basis of outstanding quality. Our goal is to give you guidance on the best of everything.

Fantastic Footwear—Esquivel Shoes
Building a wardrobe starts much like any other construction project: from the ground up. Build yourself a fine foundation with a pair of Esquivel handcrafted shoes. Esquivel has 17 years of personalized fine craftsmanship to its name, and the result is a one-of-a-kind, handmade product that will turn heads on the street or in the boardroom. An array of colorful designs will bring excitement to your pedal extremities.
Spirits Alcehmy—The Homemade Gin Kit
Anyone with a bottle of vodka and a spare 36 hours can make his own gin with The Homemade Gin Kit. The kit contains two stoppered glass bottles, a funnel, a strainer and one tin of juniper berries and another of the company’s proprietary botanical blend. Steep the berries in vodka for 24 hours, add the botanicals and wait 12 more. Of course, the real fun comes when you start to fine tune it with your own flavors.
Start Your Engines—Richard Petty Driving Experience
The Richard Petty Fantasy Camp offers plenty of opportunities (20 stock car tracks, 11 exotic car tracks) to get behind the wheel of really off-the-chart rides, but if you’re one of the lucky 12 to sign up for the Richard Petty Driving Experience in Las Vegas (March 10–13) you’ll meet the man himself, plus Dale Inman and Randy LaJoie, and get put up in luxury. If you aren’t, not to worry, the Experience comes twice a year.
High Flying—Flexjet Airplanes
There are few things worse than the helpless misery that air travel can inflict without warning. Owning a private jet, on the other hand, is an oft-costly hassle. Flexjet by Bombardier has found a nice balance with their service: all of the convenience of a private jet without the investment and micromanagement. Choose from one of several packages that lets you pair your needs with the right frequency of service, and quit being grounded with major airlines.
Chilling Out—VinOice
You’re enjoying your first picnic or patio lunch of the year complete (of course) with white wine. You go to pour yourself a sip of the vino, but it has warmed up in the sun. Unacceptable! You can easily avoid that sad happenstance with VinOice, a cooling rod that you keep in the freezer and then insert into a bottle of wine when you uncork it. The top unit has a lid that opens automatically when you pour. The VinOice will keep a bottle of wine at optimal temperature for about an hour.
The Perfect Pilsner—Spiegelau
A well-brewed craft beer, like wine, should be served in the proper vessel so as to deliver its full flavor spectrum to the nose and mouth. Fortunately for craft beer lovers, Spiegelau knows this and has added a Tall Pilsner shape to its lauded Beer Classics Collection. Like its Tulip, Wheat and Lager brethren, the thinness and superior materials of the Pilsner glass helps to maintain proper beer temperature, head and carbonation for longer.
