Final Cigar Dinner Scheduled for Eve of Carlsbad Outdoor Smoke Ban
Posted: October 22, 2012
Call it the cigar enthusiast’s version of a swan song, or a last hurrah.
On November 1, the day before restaurants in Carlsbad, California, must enforce an outdoor patio smoking ban passed earlier this year, a group of cigar smokers will gather at Hennessy’s Tavern for one final night of fine food, beer and cigars.
According to a report in the North County Times, the cigar social has been hosted by Gregg and DeeDee Engels of Cigar Grotto for 11 years and attracts a large crowd. Dubbed the “Eve of the Ban on Smoking in Carlsbad Cigar Social”, the three-course cigar dinner starts at 6:30 p.m. on November 1 and costs about $60.
In September, the resort city of Carlsbad joined a growing number of California cities and small towns when its city council voted to ban smoking on the outdoor patio areas of restaurants. While smoking inside restaurants and bars in California has been illegal since 1988, many places allowed lighting up on outside patios.
The new law is set to take effect November 2.
