Double Ring Gauge?

When a cigar's ring gauge is listed as 46/50, what does that mean?

It's a figurado.

Some cigarmakers list two ring gauges for their figurados, which are shaped cigars. One ring is for the cigar at its most narrow point, the other for its widest. Here at Cigar Aficionado, we list only one ring gauge for all cigars, including figurados. That ring measures the cigar at its widest point.

Remember, the ring gauge is the diameter of a cigar, based on 64ths of an inch. A cigar with a 40 ring gauge is 40/64ths of an inch thick. A 64 ring gauge cigar would have a diameter of one inch.

if you don't rate double ring gauge cars then why do you rate the montecristo no.2

@charlie- we do rate double ring gauge cigars. In our tasting notes, though, we only list a single ring gauge.
