Golden La Flor Dominicana

The newest La Flor Dominicana cigars come packed in gleaming golden tubes, with a nod to Litto Gomez’s life before he began making cigars.
La Flor Dominicana Oro, a three-size cigar line wrapped in Nicaraguan cover leaf, will be revealed at the International Premium Cigar & Pipe Retailers trade show that begins August 2. Oro is the Spanish word for gold, and each cigar in the La Flor Dominicana Oro line will come packaged in a golden tube. The move is a throwback to Gomez’s career as a jeweler. A near-death experience in the shop caused him to leave the business, and take up cigars.
“With my background in gold, I had to go back full circle,” Gomez told Cigar Aficionado.
There will be three sizes in the line, a Chisel, the wedge-shaped figurado created by Gomez, and a pair of 6 by 54 parejos. The cigars will have Dominican binder and filler and wrappers grown from the top leaves of Cuban-seed plants from Nicaragua, which is a higher priming than what is used on the Coronado by La Flor blend.
“It will be like the Coronado blend, kicked up,” said Gomez. “This is the Oro line; it has a Habano Nicaraguan wrapper, which is a little darker than the one we use for Coronado. It’s a pretty full-bodied cigar.”
More information on the new cigars will appear in today's edition of Cigar Insider, the twice-monthly newsletter from Cigar Aficionado.
