The newest Romeo y Julieta from the Dominican Republic is off to a strong start. The Romeo by Romeo y Julieta Piramide, a powered-up version of the traditionally mild Dominican Romeo, took the top score in the last issue of Cigar Insider, the twice-monthly newsletter from Cigar Aficionado magazine.

The 92-point showing for the 6 1/8 inches long, 52 ring gauge smoke also earned it the accolade of Humidor Selection. The medium to full-bodied cigar had an earthy, complex character with a lush draw and complex flavors that included cocoa bean, hazelnuts and black pepper.

Romeo by Romeo y Julieta is made with dark, Ecuadoran Habano-seed wrappers and an otherwise all-Dominican blend.

The brand comes in four sizes, retailing from $7.25 to $7.75 per cigar. The Cigar Insider tasting included each size in the brand. To see how the rest performed, read the July 3 Cigar Insider.
