Newman Announces New Bargain Line

Posted: July 3, 2012
At this year’s IPCPR trade show, J.C. Newman will be debuting the wallet friendly Perla del Mar, a new box-pressed line set to retail for around $5 per stick.
Now made in Nicaragua, Perla del Mar is a long discontinued vintage Cuban brand resurrected and rebranded for this release. The old artwork is mostly intact, though slightly updated to reflect its new ownership and identity. It’s rolled at Fabrica de Tabacos San Rafael S.A.—the same Nicaraguan factory that makes J. C. Newman’s Brick House and El Baton lines. Perla del Mar’s blend consists of Nicaraguan filler tobaccos from four different growing regions, a Nicaraguan binder and an Ecuadoran Connecticut wrapper that makes the cigar “smooth and creamy” in character.
Four sizes have been established, though they’ve yet to be officially named. There will be a short and stout 3 3/4 inch by 56 ring cigar (the same ring gauge and just a quarter inch longer than their Brick House “Teaser”), a 4 3/4" by 52 robusto, a 6 1/4" by 54 toro, and a thick 6" by 60 gordo size.
Specific prices have not been set, but the MSRP for each stick should hover around $5 for the entire line. While Perla del Mar will be debuting in August, it will likely not hit retailers until September.
