Fletcher’s Cigar Bar & Social, Ormond Beach, Florida

County in Florida is known for beaches, bikers, and, of course,
NASCAR’s Daytona 500, but owner Bill Fletcher saw a hole in the
landscape: an inviting cigar spot. “I was tired of smoking cigars on my
back porch as well as going to clubs, [so] I opened Fletcher’s.”
His cigar bar’s layout, longer than it is wide, offers an intimate conversation area with the requisite leather couches poised a few feet in front of sitting chairs. Hanging flat-screen TVs give this bar a slightly sporty vibe during televised events or Thursday poker nights. Live jazz and blues fill the space on Fridays and Saturdays with the help of a baby grand piano near the entrance. Fletcher’s also features a private conference room and personalized, brass-plate lockers for loyal patrons.
Half of the lounge serves as the walk-in humidor stocked with Honduran, Dominican and Nicaraguan cigars. “Hard to say what my most popular sell is, but I consistently sell more Rocky Patel,” Fletcher says. The inventory is influenced by the buying patterns of his loyal customers—“I make sure to carry what they like to smoke—” promising that you’ll run into a few regulars when you visit. Fletcher describes the crowd as “everyone from 18-92 years old. Musicians, lawyers, doctors, students, or CEOs. Cigars are the common denominator.”
This laid-back attitude makes Fletcher’s a welcome spot for the cigar buff or newbie, and the bar offerings make this a great place to go even if a cigar isn’t on the agenda. More than a half-dozen craft beer taps, often featuring a Florida-brewed Cigar City draft, plus a good bottle selection equals plenty of quality beers powerful enough to stand up to any cigar’s flavor. A selection of optimal pairing wines is also available.
Ormond Beach native, Fletcher wanted to give back to the community and
local economy which he does two-fold with his other business, Fletcher’s
Seaside Automotive, a full service car and motorcycle shop.
Weekday happy hours from 3-6 p.m. round out the specials, but that’s not all that makes Fletcher’s a cigar haven. “Fletcher’s is special because the people are special. We take the time to get to know everyone. From what they drink, smoke, to their hobbies and passions. We are a comfortable atmosphere to get away from it all…to hang with the guys or have a ladies’ night out,” Fletcher says.
Locals and visitors alike will find Fletcher’s a surprising cigar tavern and dose of classy tucked away in an area strewn with strip malls and tacky souvenir shops.
