ProCigar Festival Begins in Dominican Republic

Posted: February 22, 2012
The fifth annual ProCigar Festival is under way in the Dominican Republic, the world’s leading producer of premium cigars.
The weeklong event began on Sunday in La Romana, with a golf tournament and a tour of Tabacalera de Garcia, the factory where Romeo y Julieta and Montecristo cigars are made. The party moved today to Santiago, the capital of Dominican cigarmaking.
Guests will embark on tours of the new Matasa factory (makers of Quesada cigars), La Aurora S.A., (Aurora, Guillermo Léon); General Cigar Dominicana (where Macanudo, Partagas and La Gloria Cubanas are made) and Cigars Davidoff (home to the Davidoff brand). There will also be tours of General Cigar and Davidoff tobacco fields, various other activities and a charity auction.
Cigar Aficionado is at the festival. Look for reports later this week and next about the event.
