New Colorado Oscuro From La Flor Dominicana Coming Soon

A new strain of Habano seed wrapper grown in Nicaragua was the inspiration for La Flor Dominicana’s Colorado Oscuro brand, a limited-edition cigar that will be released twice a year—once in July and once in December.

“It’s very different from my Ligero and Double Ligero lines,” said brand owner Litto Gomez. “The cigar is very smooth, but has a surprisingly full body. This is the nature of this particular brand.”

Underneath the dark, oily two-year-old Nicaraguan wrapper is an all-Dominican blend of tobacco from Gomez’s La Canela farm. Made in the Dominican Republic at Tabacalera La Flor S.A., the cigars are packaged in wooden crates of 50, and come in four sizes: No. 2, 4 1/4 inches by 48 ring gauge; No. 3, 5 by 50; No. 4, 5 1/4 by 54; and No. 5, 5 3/4 by 60. The line retails in the $6.50 to $7.90 range and although the cigars are thick, none of them are very long.

La Flor Dominicana first shipped around 500 boxes of each size this summer, and the Colorado Oscuro has been slowly finding its way to tobacconists. La Flor will ship an additional 500 boxes come December and that will be all until the summer of 2012.
