Special My Father Cigar Commemorates Fallen 9/11 Firefighters

Posted: September 22, 2011
Three-hundred
and forty-three firefighters were tragically killed at the World Trade
Center on September 11, 2001, and to honor the 10th anniversary of their
heroism, Jaime Garcia of My Father Cigars has teamed up with Casa de
Montecristo of Chicago to create a special smoke.
The
My Father Commemorative 911 will actually be two different cigars
packaged in a box of 20. Nine cigars will feature a Habano Rosado
wrapped smoke with a '96 Corojo binder. The other eleven cigars will be
covered by an "Oscuro Oscuro" wrapper.
If
"oscuro oscuro" sounds familiar, it's because you have seen it on
Garcia's Le Bijou 1922 line of cigars. According to Michele Wendt, an
employee of Casa de Montecristo, the Commemorative 911 smoke is actually
a cross between the My Father Le Bijou and the 2011 Limited Edition
blend.
Although
the wrappers will be different, the cigar will be only one size—a Toro
that is 5 1/2 inches by 54 ring gauge. It's an extremely limited
release, as only 343 boxes will be made available for $199.95. Wendt
said $40 from each box sold will be donated to a designated charity that
supports families of the fallen firefighters.
"Our main intent with this project is to get the money into the hands of the specific victims' families," said Wendt.
Wendt
said the idea for the commemorative cigar was actually suggested to
Mike and Sam Khalil, the owners of Casa de Montecristo, by a customer
named Jeffrey Holst, who is actually a battalion chief from Firehouse
No. 1 in Lombard, Illinois.
Garcia
has told Casa de Montecristo that the cigars will arrive at the lounge
on September 27. Boxes can be pre-ordered at 911cigars.com.
