A Month of Cigar Festivals
Posted: February 7, 2011
February has turned into party month in the cigar business. Three cigar festivals are taking place this month.
The parties begin this week in the Dominican Republic, with the fourth annual ProCigar Festival. ProCigar is a group of cigarmakers in the Dominican Republic and since 2008 they have brought together cigar lovers and retailers (most, but far from all, from the United States) for several days of cigar smoking, tours of factories and fields, and gala parties, all centered around the cigar. The makers of Macanudo, Davidoff, Fonseca, La Aurora and Montecristo cigars take part. More than 200 people attend. For more information, visit http://www.procigar.org
Senior editor David Savona is in Santiago beginning tomorrow, and will be blogging all week from the festival.
Next week, Honduras joins the cigar festival crowd for the first time, with the Humor Jaguar festival, which runs February 13 through 17. The event bills itself as a combination of touring the beauty of Honduras and getting information on cigarmakers, such as those who make Rocky Patel, Camacho, Alec Bradley, Flor de Copan, Flor de Selva, Plasencia and other cigar brands. The original cigar festival, and the biggest of them all, takes place in Havana starting on February 21. The thirteenth annual Festival del Habano is a gathering of hundreds of Cuban cigar lovers, retailers and distributors, and features seminars and tours as well as gala dinners. Cigar Aficionado will be covering the festival—come back to www.cigaraficionado.com for more details.
