New, Limited-Edition Olivas for Europe

The Oliva Cigar Co. recently thanked its European supporters with a gift any cigar enthusiast could appreciate: a new, limited-edition smoke.
The Oliva Edicion Europa 2010 is a Short Robusto measuring 4 1/2 inches by 50 ring, that, according to Brian Shapiro, Oliva's international sales manager, will only be available in Europe and Russia. He said the Edicion Europa is essentially an Oliva Serie V Maduro blend wrapped in a maduro leaf from San Andrés, Mexico. (The original Serie V Maduro is wrapped in Nicaraguan tobacco.)
Only 1,500 boxes of ten cigars were made available, Shapiro said.
Shapiro unveiled the Edicion Europa for retailers during dinner events in Zurich, Düsseldorf and Holland. Consumers also got the chance to smoke the cigar at events held at Cigar World, a large tobacconist located in Düsseldorf, Germany, and at the branded Oliva Cigar Lounge in Den Bosch, Holland. The lounge in Den Bosch was the first Oliva branded lounge on European soil.
"It was about saying ‘Thank you' to our European retailers for their support," said Shapiro.
In recent years, Germany has grown to become a large market for non-Cuban cigars. Shapiro claims sales of non-Cuban cigars now exceeds Cuban smokes there, with 55 percent being non-Cuban and 45 percent Cuban.
On October 21, Oliva plans to open a second branded cigar lounge at Cigarren Unter Den Linden, a tobacconist in Berlin.
