Winemaker Releases Cigar Brand
Posted: September 13, 2010
California Vintner and cigar enthusiast Fred Schrader is trying his hand in the cigar business with Schrader Hispañiola Cigars, which is produced at the Para Ti factory in the Dominican Republic. Scheduled for a fall release, the cigar will be distributed by Havana Cellars, the same company that owns and distributes the Tatuaje brand.
Schrader Hispañiola, which is cross branded to carry the same Dragon logo found on the Schrader wine label, comes in one size-Doco-Est MMIX-I, a 7 1/2 inch by 56 ring gauge, double-tapered cigar shaped like a Salomon cigar. It was rolled in 2009 from a blend of Colorado Habano Honduran wrapper the maker says is from 2001, a Criollo '98 Dominican binder from 2008 and a Dominican blend of Criollo '98, Havana Vuelta Arriba seed ligero, and corojo ligero from 2001.
The Doco-Est MMIX-I comes in boxes of 10 and retails for $26.95 per cigar. Only 1,150 boxes were produced.
Despite the affiliation with Schrader wines, Shrader Hispañiola is not a wine-flavored cigars.
