What you are seeing is a genuine Vegas Robaina cigar band. Notice the crispness of the letter "R" and the two gold dots, as well as the year "1845" just below, upon the brown centerpiece face. Study the gold leaves—note the faint crease through the middle of each leaf. The band has a medium luster and possesses no raised lettering or designs. The words "CUBA" and "HABANA" extend from the centerpiece—the former from the left, the latter from the right.
An authentic purchased in Australia
This band was sent in by a skeptical cigar smoker from Totowa, N.J. The gold coloring is so blurry that the "1845" is nearly illegible. However, this is a genuine Vegas Robaina. We have found a great disparity in the quality of many Vegas Robaina cigar bands. And, in our experience, this is not a brand that is being widely counterfeited. In our estimation, there is reason to be uncertain, but check back in the Counterfeit Gallery for future comparisons. In this example, the letter "R" and the gold border that surrounds the centerpiece are both raised. The brown hue is a lighter shade than the previous genuine band. Finally, the gold coloring is slightly shinier.
