Hoyo de Tradición is a new take on the popular Hoyo de Monterrey line out of Honduras. It is loaded with some of the more unusual tobaccos of the cigar world, which include filler from San Agustín, Honduras, and the volcanic Nicaraguan island of Ometepe. The binder is rarer still, a Habano seed that General Cigar Co. grows in Connecticut. (Habano was a preferred leaf in the Connecticut River Valley a century ago, but the larger leaves of broadleaf pushed out the Habano crop.) The wrapper is from the Jamastran region of Honduras. Combined, the tobaccos make for a delicious smoke, especially in the Toro Grande size, which is a fat corona gorda. The cigar is nutty and leathery, with touches of tea leaves, wood and pepper. And at only $5.20, it’s the least expensive cigar on our Top 25 list.
