During the mid-1990s, Spain's Tabacalera S.A. catapulted itself into the surging U.S. cigar
market, acquiring factories for heady sums and launching several cigar brands. Among them was
Quintero, a mild smoke at a bargain price. It was later removed from store shelves. A decade
later, Altadis U.S.A. Inc.the U.S. subsidiary of Altadis S.A., which was created by the merger of
Tabacalera and France's SEITAhas brought back Quintero. The bargain price was kept, but the blend
was vastly improved, resulting in a hearty Central American smoke. The wrapper is a Cuban-seed
Honduran leaf and there is a touch of Nicaraguan in the filler blend, which keeps it from being a
Honduran puro. This 7 1/4 by 54 smoke is yet another quality, inexpensive cigar coming from the
Flor de Copan factory.
