The Don Tomás brand is more than 40 years old and has survived the ups and downs of the cigar market, a change in owners (it went from UST to General Cigar) and, now, a change in blends. General Cigar, led by president and chief operating officer Angel Daniel Núñez, reworked the Don Tomás blend for a relaunch in late 2005. Dubbing it Clasico, the company's idea is to get back to the brand's roots as a hearty, no-nonsense cigar for a fair price. The Don Tomás tends to be toasty, woody and slightly sweet. The Presidente is a huge cigar, 7 1/2 inches long with a full 50 ring gauge, and has a suggested retail price of only $3.95, making it one of the greatest bangs for the buck in the world of premium cigars.
