Fonsecas have been rolled in the Dominican Republic since the early 1970s under the tutelage of Manuel Quesada. The core brand is creamy and very mild, made with Connecticut-shade wrappers. The Vegas de Fonseca brand is a new take on Fonseca, powered by a multinational blend and finished with a Cameroon wrapper, aged in the palm bark known as tercios. The cigars are medium-bodied and full of flavor, and at $4.25 for the 5 1/4 by 50 Sobrino, they are also quite the bargain.
