Rare, Aged Cubans To Be Auctioned

Posted: Thursday, October 08, 2009

By Gregory Mottola

For those in the market for vintage, out-of-production Cuban cigars, United Kingdom retailer CGars Ltd. will be holding an auction of aged, rare smokes on December 1 at the Boisdale of Belgravia, a Regency townhouse in London known for its upscale restaurant, lounges and club-level private dining.

"Among the lots on offer will be Dunhill, Davidoff, and limited-edition cigars," said Mitchell Orchant, managing director of Cigars Ltd. "We will also be auctioning unique and rare humidors, but the one area that always gets huge attention is pre-Cuban embargo (pre-1962) as well as Cuban Davidoff and Dunhill Havana cigars, which are becoming as rare as hen's teeth."

The event will start with a 7 p.m. mojito cocktail reception followed by the 7:30 auction. Orchant expects to have about 100 cigar lots, all Cuban, including boxes of Davidoff 2000 and 4000 cigars; Dunhill Hoyo de Monterrey Selección Suprema No. 159; Dunhill Partagas Selección Suprema No. 154 in a cabinet of 50; Dunhill Montecristo election Supreme No. 1; and a pre-embargo glass jar of Punch Presidentes.
