In Honor of Ramón Ciefuentes: Benji's Partagas

Posted: Friday, August 07, 2009

By David Savona

Fifty-seven years ago, Benjamin Menendez drew his first paycheck from the cigar industry. Today, he’s still going strong, and has put his name on a special cigar made to honor one of his mentors, the late and legendary Ramón Cifuentes.

The cigar is called the Benji Menendez Partagas Master Series Majestuoso, a Dominican cigar made with a blend of Cameroon wrapper, Havana seed binder grown in Connecticut, piloto Cubano filler from the Dominican Republic, and two types of Nicaraguan filler--ligero from the Estelí region and leaf from the volcanic island of Ometepe.

“This cigar that we’re presenting is an homage from me to the Cifuentes family,” said Menendez. “This is very private. This is me.”

General Cigar Co. will release 5,000 boxes of the Majestuoso, each of which contains 20 cigars. They will go on sale in October at a suggested retail price of $9.98 per cigar.

To see Menendez smoke and describe the cigar, see the video.
