Davidoff Offers Sneak Preview of 2009 Limited Edition

Posted: Thursday, June 25, 2009

By Gregory Mottola

A select group of about 85 Davidoff fans gathered at Bayard's club and catering hall in New York City, and were among the first to get a sneak preview of the new Davidoff Limited Edition 2009 Toro Especial. The prerelease party, held on June 8, was presented in typical Davidoff gala dinner fashion with a cocktail hour, three-course meal, and an ample supply of Davidoff cigars throughout the evening.

Davidoff's master blender Hendrik "Henke" Kelner was in attendance, joined by Peter Baenninger, president of Davidoff of Geneva (USA) Inc., Davidoff brand manager Danielle Hawthorne and Michael Herklots, general manager for New York's two Davidoff shops.

"This cigar has an Ecuadoran hybrid wrapper made from three different Cuban seeds," said Kelner during the dinner. "The first seed crossing made a wrapper we call 125. Then we crossed that with another Cuban seed and produced this new wrapper, called 702." The seed variety gives the cigar its name: the words "Selección 702" appear on the cigar's secondary band, as well as on the front of the box.
