A Cigar on Nestor

Posted: Monday, June 08, 2009

By David Savona

Nestor Miranda wants to buy you a cigar.

The man who created Miami Cigar & Co. 20 years ago is celebrating with a unique promotion—giving away a free cigar with the purchase of any other cigar, even one made by a competitor.

He's dubbed June 12 National Nestor Miranda Cigar Day, and Miami Cigar will be outfitting 500 cigar retailers around the country with free samples of Nestor Miranda Special Selection 20 Aniversario Danno cigars. On June 12, a cigar lover can go to any of the retailers, buy any cigar, and get the Nestor Miranda cigar for free.

"It's the largest sampling ever done," claims Rene Castaneda, sales director of Miami Cigar.

Each participating shop will have 40 cigars for the promotion, and 20 of the shops will be outfitted for much larger parties, with appearances by the people from Miami Cigar and its sales team. (For a list of participating retailers, visit nestormirandacigars.com.) Miranda and Castaneda will be at Sabor Havana in Doral, Florida, where Presidente Beer and Ron Barcelo Imperial Rum will be served.

The celebration is part of a yearlong commemoration of the 20 years Miami Cigar has been in business. The company chose June 12 because that was the day Miami Cigar was headquartered in Florida in 1989.

The size is called the Danno in remembrance of Miranda's son Daniel Miranda, who died on August 22.
