Reyes Turns Miami Shop Into Rolling Factory

Posted: Wednesday, January 21, 2009

By Gregory Mottola

Company patriarch Rolando Reyes Sr. inspects some Miami Edition cigars at the Reyes Family’s new rolling gallery in Little Havana.

Reyes Family Cigars has converted its Miami storefront into a combination cigar-rolling gallery, cigar shop and cigar lounge.

Located on the outskirts of Little Havana, at 114 NW 22nd Avenue, the new shop resides in its old space but has been turned into a neighborhood cigar haven where smokers can congregate, drink Cuban-style coffee, watch television, debate Cuban politics and choose from a variety of Puros Indios and Reyes Family cigars, including the new Cuba Aliados Limited Miami Edition cigar, a brand rolled exclusively at this location.

"It's not always easy to get to Honduras," said Carlos Diez, president of Reyes Family cigars. "This way I can make my own blends here and get more hands-on experience. Quality control is also tighter and I wanted to go more boutique. A Miami-made cigar adds more prestige to the brand."

The newly renovated facility, which is annexed to the company's warehouse and office, employs six rollers, who each make 100 Miami-edition cigars per day.
