God of Fire Dinner Raises More Than $57,000 for Charity

A cigar dinner held at the Grand Havana Room in Manhattan Wednesday night helped raise more than $57,000 for the Cigar Family Charitable Foundation, thanks to an auction highlighted by a dramatic bronze statue of the bound and tormented Greek Titan Prometheus.
The dinner was hosted by the Grand Havana Room and De La Concha Tobacconist Inc. in New York City and featured a tasting of three God of Fire cigars, made by Tabacalera A. Fuente y Cia. in the Dominican Republic. Carlos Fuente Jr., the maker of God of Fire, was in attendance, as was Keith Park, owner of the Prometheus line of cigar accessories.
The crowd puffed on the God of Fire cigars over a dinner of pumpkin, sage and mascarpone risotto and rare bison tenderloin. Bill McCuddy, formerly of Fox News, auctioned off three lots of Fuente-made cigars: a box of 30 Don Carlos Edición Aniversario cigars went for $1,400, a box of 22 Fuente Fuente OpusX in 17 sizes, many of them quite rare, raised $2,500, and three years’ worth of God of Fire releases went for $3,700.
The final lot was a 23-inch-tall bronze statue of Prometheus that weighs nearly 80 pounds. The giant is bound to a rock, a menacing bird of prey attacking him for his crime, stealing fire from Zeus and giving it to man. The piece was created by artist Julio Aguilera, who was at the dinner, and it sold for $25,000. A donor matched the $25,000 to add to the charity.
The Cigar Family Charitable Foundation was created in 2001 by the Fuente and Newman families, and has created a school for impoverished children in the Bonao area of the Dominican Republic.
