Lawmakers Pass Smoking Ban in Pennsylvania

The Pennsylvania Senate approved a bill last Wednesday that will ban smoking in almost all public places as well as most work sites.
The bill, which was approved with a 41-9 vote, was signed by Gov. Edward G. Rendell on Friday, and will go into effect in 90 days.
The bill bans smoking in restaurants and sports facilities, as well as more mundane places such as in taxis, trains and buses. Smoking will be allowed in certain bars, under the loophole of establishments where 20 percent or less of sales come from food.
There are also exemptions for tobacco shops as well as cigar bars where at least 15 percent of sales come from tobacco.
