Torpedo Added to Zino Classic Line

Posted: Friday, June 06, 2008

By Gregory Mottola

Swiss company Davidoff of Geneva has added a torpedo size to its Zino Classic Premium Selection brand of cigars. The Torpedo brings the brand to eight sizes and is the only shaped cigar in the line. It measures 5 inches by 54 ring with a suggested retail price of $7.80, or $156 per box of 20.

"Adding a figurado is always a welcomed addition to any line as it creates a new experience of flavor that a parejo simply can't offer due to its shape," said Michael Herklots, general manager of the Davidoff Columbus Circle shop in New York City.

According to Herklots, the tapered shoulders of the torpedo cause the residual collection of oils, allowing the flavors to develop the way they would in a larger cigar, but in less time.

The cigar comprises an Ecuadoran Connecticut-sun-grown wrapper, Honduran binder, and filler from Honduras and the Dominican Republic.
