Camacho Debuts Anniversary Cigar

Posted: Wednesday, April 02, 2008

By David Savona

The Camacho Corojo 10th Anniversary debuted nationwide last week. The cigar, first reported on in the August 28 Cigar Insider, was expected to be on the market much sooner.

"The reason for the delay was simply that I was not 100 percent satisfied with the blend," said Christian Eiroa, president of Miami-based Camacho Cigars. "It was not until January 10th that I had finalized the blend. The first 5,000 cigars were produced and about 500 of them were smoked. It was then that we were finally satisfied with the end result."

The cigar was created to celebrate a decade of the Eiroa family growing Corojo seed. As described in a story in the October 2000 Cigar Aficionado by James Suckling, the seed was first developed at the El Corojo plantation in the 1930s near San Juan y Martinez Cuba. The last crop of Cuban Corojo was planted around 1997.
