New 601 Series from United Tobacco

Posted: Monday, November 12, 2007

By Gregory Mottola

United Tobacco's 601 Habano Oscuro series, also known as the 601 Green Label, is now available.

It is made by Jose "Pepin" Garcia at the Tabacalera Cubana factory in Nicaragua and, according to United, is the strongest cigar in the 601 series, which also includes Connecticut, Habano and maduro wrapper varieties. The cigars were launched at this year's Retail Tobacco Dealers of America trade show.

"It's the most full-bodied cigar in the line," said United President Eddie Ortega. "Now we have a cigar to fit every flavor profile."

The cigar owes its strength to the extra-dark Nicaraguan wrapper and the all-Nicaraguan binder and filler. The cigar comes in five sizes: Corona, 5 inches by 42 ring; Tronco, 5 by 52; La Fuerza, 5 1/2 by 54; Trabuco, 6 1/8 by 58; and La Punta, a 5 1/2 by 52-ring perfecto. The line ranges in price from $5.50 to $9.75 and all sizes come in boxes of 20 except the Corona, which comes in boxes of 40.

United has also released the 601 Edición Limitada ceramic jar that holds 24 cigars, each of which measures 7 1/2 by 52. The size and blend are not available in any of the regular 601 lines. Only 500 jars were produced.
