Aurora Relocates Factory to Original Company Town

Posted: Thursday, October 25, 2007

After making cigars in Santiago for 92 years, La Aurora S.A. has returned to its roots. On October 3, Aurora began rolling cigars in the Dominican town of Guazumal, 104 years to the day that the company was founded in the same town.

"It's one mile from the site of the original factory," says Jose Blanco, marketing director for La Aurora, the oldest producer of cigars in the Dominican Republic.

All of Aurora's cigars are being made now in Guazumal, except for its bomb-shaped Preferidos, which are rolled in a tourist-oriented facility at the Santiago Cultural Center located near Aurora's old Santiago factory.
