The Toraño family has bought a mountain. Purchased
a year ago from private owners, the Toraños will be
breaking ground this spring to turn the mountain into the
new center of its cigar manufacturing operations
in Nicaragua.
The mountain overlooks the city of Estelí, where most
Nicaraguan cigars are made. On the flat plane at the
mountain's base, the Toraños plan on building a 45,000-
square-foot cigar factory. About halfway up the mountain,
the Toraños will be constructing a cigar lounge with a city
view and a lodging facility for visitors.
