Felipe Power Leopard

Posted: Friday, September 22, 2006

By David Savona

Felipe Gregorio has introduced a number of unique concepts in tobacco in its 15 years in the cigar business.

The latest from Felipe brand owner Philip Wynne is the Felipe Power, a nine-size line that includes the dotted Leopard cigar. The Leopard is made with two wrappers, making it look as if it has spots. After a cigar is wrapped with a light wrapper, a second, darker wrapper is cut with varying sizes of circles and then wrapped around the first wrapper, revealing light circles. Felipe Gregorio also has a version in which the inside wrapper is candela.

The line is made at Tabacalera Real in the Dominican Republic with Nicaraguan and Dominican filler, a Nicaraguan binder and Costa Rican wrapper. They scale in size from 4 1/2 inches long to 7 1/2. Three are figurados, including the Leopard. The nine cigars have a suggested price range of $10 to $15.
