Bar Owners Sue Over Smoking Ban
Posted: Tuesday, September 05, 2006
A group of Colorado bar owners filed a lawsuit in federal court on the grounds that the Colorado state indoor smoking ban is unconstitutional.
In a court filing submitted on August 25, the consortium of owners, calling themselves the Coalition for Equal Rights, said the effects of the ban have been "devastating," and that the exemption for cigar bars and casinos is unfair.
According to the Associated Press, the state has defended its actions, saying the businesses are not similar and pointing to the millions of dollars in revenue casinos contribute to state coffers.
