Xikar Genesis

Posted: Tuesday, May 30, 2006

By Michael Moretti

The Genesis lighter, the latest non-cigar-cutting item from the Kansas City-based Xikar, is a straight-shooting torch. Its glossy, rounded shape bears virtually no bells and whistles. It's plain, with a sleek body and a metallic cap and features the usual push-button ignition switch, fuel-monitoring window and adjustable single-jet wind-resistant flame.

If it is anything like the Executive, which was the lighter released by Xikar last year, the Genesis will take a beating. The end product may not look pretty, but it should continue to spark up again and again. Another admirable trait of Xikar lighters is their price. The Genesis has a suggested retail price of $39.99 and is available in gunmetal, blue, red, black and silver.

This is Xikar’s third lighter. The company is known primarily for its Xi cigar cutter and line of knives. However, during the past two years Xikar has sought to expand it business with a broader range of accessories, which in addition to lighters includes the Envoy line featuring leather-bound cigar cases, as well as a desktop humidor.
