OneOff Cigar Ashtrays

Posted: Monday, July 28, 2003

By Michael Moretti

OneOff's Deruta ashtrays combine old world Italian craftsmanship with modern style, shipped straight to your cigar room.

The ashtray takes its name from the village in which it is made. Deruta is a small town nestled in the heart of the Italian peninsula in the hilly region of Umbria. Many villages throughout Italy are renowned for skill in a certain trade. Some towns have a famous wine or cheese, others are skilled at glass blowing or fabric design. Deruta carries on a celebrated tradition for hand-painted ceramics, called majolica, which is a tradition dating back to the fifteenth century.

The Deruta ceramic ashtrays, which a company spokesman says are made especially in this village for OneOff, are fashioned into a triangular shape with a circular well in the center in which to ash your cigar. The OneOff logo, a white "peace" symbol set against a red backdrop, is hand-painted in the center of the white-colored triangle. Grooves for resting your cigar stretch from the center well to the three-corners of the ashtray. The larger ashtray, appropriately called the Ashtray 3, holds three cigars; the smaller ashtray, called the Ashtray 1, has one groove to cradle one cigar.

The OneOff Deruta ashtrays retail at $57 for the single ashtray and $80 for the three-cigar ashtray. Visit www.oneoffcollection.com for more information.
