Tip of the Week

Q: I am flavoring some cigars with Cognac. How much Cognac should I place in the humidor?

A: Be careful -- this is a risky idea.

Cognac, like all liquors, will evaporate inside your humidor. Cigars are hygroscopic, so they will absorb the flavors from the evaporating liquids. Even if you use a shot-glass full of Cognac and the cigars absorb all the liquid, the Cognac flavor you will get when smoking the infused cigar will probably be minimal, and will disappear almost immediately upon lighting. And you always run the risk of the Cognac spilling inside your humidor, staining your wood.

We suggest that you sip your Cognac, and smoke your (unflavored) cigar for maximum pleasure with minimal effort.
